Forge de Laguiole

Forge de Laguiole, a symbol of French design

The Forge de Laguiole workshop opened its doors in 1987. It was the culmination of a project dreamt up by a group of enthusiasts, including politicians and local business people, to reinstate the manufacture of Laguiole knives in the village of Laguiole.

Every stage of the knife manufacture is now carried out again in its place of origin. The making of Laguiole knives has returned to Laguiole.

The design of the manufacturing site was entrusted to French designer Philippe Starck, and it's a perfection reflection of the company philosophy: to successfully combine tradition and innovation. Starck's architectural vision uses glass and aluminum, and features an 18m high gleaming blade soaring into the sky above Laguiole, a symbol of the activity and dynamism of the company.

Our expertise in forging our knives is drawn from the very soul of the Aubrac plateau - our inspiration. From the outset, Forge de Laguiole has worked to develop its manufacturing skills with respect for traditional know-how. Once a small knife used locally, the Laguiole knife has now become a cult object, a design reference synonymous with art de vivre and French gastronomy.
